About the role:

Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you will be responsible for controlling the payment of salaries, wages and benefits and ensure the maintenance of related records, payroll escalations, data, and systems. You will have 7 direct reports, consisting of a Senior Payroll Officer(s), Payroll Officer(s), and a Payroll Administrator. You will have key relationships with Operational and Service Managers and Coordinators, Human Resources and Finance.

Key Responsibilities (not limited to):

  • Ensure that pay and benefits are administered and paid accurately, on time and in accordance with legislation, industrial instruments and procedures.  This includes (but is not limited to) workers compensation wages, superannuation, travel reimbursements, salary packaging and other salary sacrifice benefits.
  • Ensure that the entitlements and benefits are accurately recorded and accrued, and that accurate values are forecast and transferred to Finance for accounting purposes.
  • Ensure that all reporting and other information required by legislation, industrial instruments or procedures is provided accurately and on time.  This includes (but is not limited to) payment summaries, payslips, superannuation.
  • Ensure that enquiries are effectively managed by ensuring calls/requests for information are responded to in a timely and professional manner.  Furthermore, ensures that information needs are met through proactively providing systems and information accessibly by authorised enquirers.
  • Ensure that the payroll processes are effective and efficient, suitably documented regularly reviewed, audited and controlled.
  • Ensure that the data and records supporting HR, WHS & Payroll processes are suitably identified, stored, maintained, accessible, and archived.  This includes (but is not limited to) new employees and volunteers, changes to employee contracts, remuneration or employment status.  It includes both paper and electronic records and the systems in which they exist.  This includes (but is not limited to) HCM, Chris21 and Kronos systems.
  • Ensure that the people in the function perform at the highest possible level by actively managing and supervising the people in the team.
  • Contribute to the management of leave liabilities by analysing data and providing reports to managers in order that leave can be taken when it falls due and excess leave can be managed down.

Skills, knowledge and experience needed:

  • More than 5 year’s payroll experience in the capacity of Team Lead/Supervisor.
  • Sound knowledge of computerised pay systems and general personnel procedures.
  • Experience working on Chris21 (essential) iChris (desirable).
  • Experience working on WorkDay (strongly desirable).
  • Sound knowledge of applicable legislation, including Workers Compensation
  • Demonstrated strong leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated process improvement experience
  • Ability to work in high volume complex environment
  • Exceptional customer service, communication, and organisational skills.
